Origins and Growth
The Afro Nation Festival was first held in Portugal at The tropical shores of Praia da Rocha in Portimão in August 2019. It was founded by a Nigerian businessman, Smade-Adesegun Adeosun Jr., and Obi Asika to showcase African entrepreneurs around the world. Thousands attended the event after it was advertised with slogans like "The Biggest Party in Africa" and more than 20 Nigerian artists performed, Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid.
The aftermath of the phenomenal success, Afro Nation created its outreach in Ghana and Puerto Rico, bringing with it to each festival a weird amalgamation of artists, sounds, and cultures. And therein, its idea of inclusivity and celebration of African roots clicked with the people, and the blooming began as a global phenomenon being recognized all across the globe.

Like many large events, Afro Nation faced huge challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw several editions moved. But the organizers of the festival did not give up. They moved with the times, keeping in mind two important aspects that would define future planning-safety and inclusivity. The pandemic only made it much more relevant and poignantly remembered how such cultural congregation brings people closer.

It serves not only as a stage for the various artists to put themselves in front of audiences but also as a beacon of cultural pride and celebration.
