The 2025 Boomtown Festival is Chapter 4, titled "Power of Now". It will take place from August 6–10, 2025, is the UK's most immersive music festival, marrying interactive storytelling with a diverse lineup of music and a standard of stage production second to none.
From its beginnings in 2009 at the Matterley Estate in the South Downs National Park near Winchester, Hampshire, to the global event it is today, Boomtown has grown from a humble, small gathering into an internationally renowned festival. Since the event moved to its current home back in 2011, the event has reached cultural phenomenon status, drawing in tens of thousands each year.
A Living, Breathing Story
Boomtown is so much more than a festival of music; it's a world unto itself. Every year the event is represented as a new "Chapter" in a continuing saga of complex themes and storytelling, with a festival site divided into city-like districts, each with unique design and atmosphere.
Each district is a showcase of immersive scenes, venues, and streets peopled by hundreds of live actors playing characters that interact with festival-goers. In unison, they create a living, interactive experience that has very little to do with the ordinary edition of a festival. Building this new world is not a minor task, since construction takes six weeks, and after the event, dismantling it takes one month.
Six Pillars of Boomtown
The ethos at Boomtown revolves around The Six Pillars: environmental sustainability, social equality, and community engagement. In fact, it sets the vision for Boomtown to be more than an entertainment space, but one for meaningful change.
A Musical Journey Across Genres
Boomtown is a very special variety bill rejoicing in music that draws influence from all four corners of the globe. Its stages are packed with everything from reggae, ska, and afrobeat to jungle, drum and bass, techno, and house. Whether it's disco, post-punk, or underground electronic music, all tastes of every kind are represented within Boomtown.
Featuring 12 main stages, more than 50 hidden venues, and thousands of performers, the festival becomes a vast, inclusive musical experience. Chapter 4: Power Of Now has introduced eight city districts, each embodying the vision of utopian society whereby one can uncover secrets and get involved with the evolving narrative.
A Festival That Beats Challenges
Founded by Chris Rutherford and Luke Marcus "Lak" Mitchell, the festival is organised by Boomtown Festival UK Limited, a company 18% owned by Live Nation UK. In 2019 Winchester City Council agreed a capacity increase to 66,000, which has further cemented its position as one of the largest events in the country.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought a lot along its tail that saw cancellations in 2020 and 2021, scaled down to a "Boom Village." Thankfully, the Boomtown swung back in 2022, resuming its mantle as a crazy genre-bending festival in the UK.
A Unique Fusion of Art, Music, and Community
Boomtown is a festival that continues to outgrow any ideas of what it could possibly be. It brings immersive storytelling together with world-class music, laced with socially aware values for a weekend truly unlike any other. For those who look for something over and above just a weekend of music, this is the entrance into a parallel world of creativity, culture, and connection.
