Kendal Calling is a live music and arts festival, held every year in the Lowther Deer Park, Lake District of Cumbria. In 2006, the festival was blessed with 900 visitors for a two-day event. The festival expanded to a four-day event; with a maximum of 40,000 visitors, the popularity became the standard. Kendal Calling is much more than a music festival; it is a gateway into a world unlike any other where each turn brings a new wonder of music, art, and discovery.
This rambling would lead one through over 13 stages, haphazard venues scattered across the terrain, from Tim Burgess' Tim Peaks Diner to trendy, '70s-inspired Desert Island Disco. Of the innovative spaces are Lost Eden, featuring art installations and dramatic visuals transforming the terrain; Glow Tent-passionate electronic music fans central. Further, Cabaret shows will be added to this lineup together with wellbeing activities and much more.
The bill is usually one of the biggest in music, so past acts have come in the shapes and sizes of Blondie, Pendulum, Dizzee Rascal, James, Mumford & Sons, Calvin Harris, Stereophonics, Primal Scream and Nile Rodgers & Chic. This summer Kendal Calling is marking its 20 ^{th} year in style, bringing out a great bill where Courteeners, Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy and Kaiser Chiefs top the bill. For 2025, it takes place on July 31 to August 3 and will be something special.
But its attraction is not limited to music. Kendal Calling has established itself as a highly family-friendly event with numerous workshops, interactive exhibits, themed areas, carnival-style processions around the site for all to enjoy. It's also picked up some well-known awards, including Best Small UK Festival at the 2010 UK Festival Awards and Best Small Festival at the 2011 LIVE UK Awards, confirming its status as one of the UK's best-loved festivals.
Through initiatives such as the Leave No Trace program that prompts festival-goers to minimize wastage and create environmentally conscious behavior, Kendal Calling has nature at its core. With such environmental needs, good location, and community, there is a consequent very loyal audience, something that has made Kendal Calling the iconic face in UK festivals. Music, paintings, and harmony converge in one of the most spectacular landscapes of the Lake District-a call to return each summer for a delightful and creative weekend.
