Every time I leave this festival late Sunday evening, I and colleagues, are all buzzing saying “I love WOMAD” emphatically and, of course, in harmony.
What makes WOMAD so special? Below is a snappy synopsis of why we love WOMAD and why we think you should all attend, en mass and on an annual basis….
– Family friendly – in fact, just friendly! WOMAD is the most friendly festival in the whole UK and wider afield – there’s just something in the water somehow…….
– Kids – we all feel like kids at WOMAD, but if you actually are one there is a whole world just for kids with a climbing wall; T-shirt making; Hoolahoopsand rides galore..
– Amazing music: so diverse from LTJ Buken toNadine Shah’s melancholy anger, to the life-giving upbeat Cuban rhythms of Orquesta Akokan to Orbitol and Macey Gray
– Inclusive – not just for kids, or for young people (at 45 I include myself in this bracket), WOMAD has a world of people in it who radiate appreciation for diversity
– Things to do: – this year WOMAD excelled itself with its’ range of things to do: Artisan market; Book shops; Poetry Shack; Dance lessons & cookingfrom around the globe
– Eating it all: – WOMAD gives you great tastes from everywhere; delicious Dosa to fried halloumi with mint yogurt to creative crepes; meaty hamburgers & perfect pizzas
#Ilovedosa
– Meaningful – WOMAD has humanity; its’ books; poetry; Oxfam clothes sales; environmentally supportive recyclable everything; it’s vegan food
– Together – all of the above brings us to feel, what we most need to feel at this time in our history, – a terrific feeling of our diverse togetherness
Yay for WOMAD!
